Astro doughnuts and fried chicken is a modern restaurant that focus on doing a couple of things very well! I bet you can’t guess what those two things are? Yes, soft, melt in your mouth doughnuts with rich ingredients and delicious, golden fried chicken. I was reading food network magazine and noticed that Astro was featured as a must see destination while in Washington, D.C. for the National Cherry Blossom Festival. Astro was featured because of their beautiful cherry blossom doughnut. It’s only seasonal so you’ll have to hustle into the city or to their location in Falls Church, Virginia to taste this festive doughnut.
A bit of advice, get to Astro early in the morning or the Cherry Blossom doughnut will be sold out! I didn’t get there until around 2 pm and missed out. However, I did try the vanilla bean doughnut which was amazing. I had never eaten such a soft, pillowy, moist doughnut. The vanilla bean had a pure vanilla taste and a light vanilla glaze on top of the beautifully scored dough. I admit I absolutely fell in love with Astro’s fried chicken tenders. The white meat chicken tenders were fried to golden perfection with a crisp, yet soft coating. The breading mixture had a scrumptious seasoning incorporated, definitely featuring a healthy amount of pepper. I cannot recommend the doughnuts or fried chicken enough. I craved more chicken after finishing my order of chicken tenders with a side of ranch dressing. No wonder food network magazine featured this awesome restaurant! I’ll be going back again this week to see the cherry blossoms one more time before peak bloom ends and I’m making sure to place an advance online order for my cherry blossom doughnuts and fried chicken. Twice in seven days isn’t too much is it?
Make stopping by Astro in D.C the perfect trip by swinging by the National Cherry Blossoms around the Tidal Basin.
