A local favorite for many Frederick natives, Madrones did not disappoint. Our friends, Michelle and Randy, invited us to dinner at this rustic, yet modern, American bar and grill. This was a first time visit for my husband and I. We moved up to Frederick about three months ago and have enjoyed exploring the abundance of delicious restaurants in the area. So a couples date to a new place sounded great!

As I walked up to Madrones, I began to feel the modern, mountain lodge atmosphere. I'm really attentive to the vibe of restaurants. There are many restaurants that serve mediocre food that I still continue to visit because of the particular vibe they emanate. Madrones fulfilled my desire for a casual, cozy neighborhood grill. When we walked in, I immediately noticed the large, stone fireplace and comfortable waiting area. We were seated immediately even though the restaurant was packed. The staff at Madrones was awesome! The host, waiter, and manager all checked in throughout the evening to make sure we were all comfortable.

The food was hot, fresh, and delicious. I ordered the crab cake sandwich with cole slaw and fries. I ate the crab cake like any Maryland girl would-without the bun. (Really, the bun just gets in the way of the delicious taste of the lump crab meat.) The cole slaw was one of the best restaurant versions I've ever had and the fries were nice and crispy. I even snuck one of my husbands chicken strips onto my plate and the buttermilk breading was to die for. Our friends both enjoyed their meals. Michelle loved the fish tacos (her usual) and Randy really liked the salmon. The kitchen nailed the presentation of these dishes. The fish tacos looked like something off of Food Network.

Beautiful presentation, great food, and a warm atmosphere make Madrones a top Frederick restaurant. I highly recommend giving this place a try. Next time, I'm going to try one of their delicious looking steaks!
